To Construct A Health & Safety Assessment Of One or More Photoshoots I Will Be Conducting For My Magazine Considering All Possible Eventualitities.

Key Skills
 - Professional responsibility
 - Applying my knowledge of professional practises
 - Showing forethought and evidence of planning an event
 - Using the opportunity to research independently for my individual situation/s

TUC - Trades Union Congress
 - Represents British workers' rights.

NUJ - National Union of Journalists
 - Represents UK journalists and protects their rights.
 - Has a committee which meets just to discuss H&S

NUJ's H&S Concerns
 - Bullying
 - Stress
 - Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
 - Public Order Situations
 - Conflict Zones
 - Exiled Journalists

What types of risks may there be in a photo-shoot?
 - Tripping on wires on floor in studio.
 - Burnt by lighting in studio.
 - Slip on wet floor.
 - Hands could be wet when operating cables/wires and plugging stuff in (electric shock).
 - Could hurt back when carrying heavy equipment.
 - Fire hazard; lighting & electrical equipment.
 - Light sensitivity (epilepsy).
 - Temperature control (16 Degrees Celsius AT LEAST).

Risk - How great the chance is that someone will be harmed by the hazard.
Hazard - Anything that will cause harm (e.g. a chemical, electricity, ladders, etc.)

Assessing The Risk
 - Major; Death or major injury or illness causing long term disability.
 - Serious; Injuries or illness causing short term disability.
 - Slight; All other injuries or illnesses.

Likelihood Of Harm
 - High; Where it is certain that harm will occur.
 - Medium; Where harm will often occur.
 - Low; Where harm will seldom occur.

Risk

+

Severity of Harm

=

Likelihood of occurrence.

This sum gives a risk value 1 -> 9 allowing a comparison of risks

1= Low Risk.            9= High Risk.

For my photo-shoot I have had to fill out a Health & Safety Assessment form that clearly shows all the risks and dangers during my photo-shoot in the studio.

I have given the correct information for each hazard and added additional comments on how to make sure that the hazard can be avoided OR what to do when this happens

Here is the Google Drive link for my document (Unfinished, more detail to be added as I go along)

UPDATE - 07/01/2014

Added another hazard.

To Explore And Design Mock-Ups To Aid Flat Planning Process.

A flat plan shows where all articles and adverts are laid out, and in what order. It allows complete control of the publication production process avoiding confusion. Without a flat plan, the production director and advertisement director struggle to control which pages go where. This makes signing off a publication very difficult and time-consuming.
Flat plans started life drawn out on pieces of paper stuck to the wall of the production team. As pages moved around, and advertisements were booked (and cancelled) the pages were annotated and amended.

These are only examples from a magazine, here is my flat plan for my front cover.

To Identify Those Involved In The Creation Of Your Magazine & Investigate Potential Issues.

In Order To Have A Successful Photo Shoot, We Need To Prepare As This Will Help Us  When We Come To Shooting. To Prepare We Need To List Out Everything Needed To Do With The Shoot And Come Up With Problems And Solutions To Match Them. We Need To Make Sure EVERYTHING Is Ready To Not Waste Time & Get Everything Done In The Space Of Time We Have.

Equipment
 - Camera - Make Sure Fully Charged! Or Have 2 Batteries. Or Charger.
 - Laptop - Wi-Fi?
 - Memory Card/SD Card - Make Sure You Have Work Backed Up! If Taking On iPhones Then Make Sure Photos Are Backed Up On The iCloud. If Needed, Bring A Spare Memory Card (Just In Case).
 - Make-up - Bring Whatever Make-Up You'd Like To Use.
 - Costumes - Same As Make-Up.
 - Props - Check Weather (In Case Equipment Gets Wet), Choose The Warmest And Driest Day Possible (Unless Your Shoot Is In The Rain?).
 - Lighting - If Outside, Choose Whichever Lighting Works For You (If No Sun, Then Use Flash If Needed)
 - Batteries - Bring A Second One. Or Charger.
 - Tripod - Always Have A Spare.

Facilities
 - Toilet Breaks
 - Food Breaks
 - Coffee Breaks
 - Make-Up Wipes

Location
 - Beach
 - Outside Clubs/Bars
 - Houses
 - Photo Studio
 - Brighton Centre
 - Travel? How To Get There? Bus, Car or Train?

Personnel
 - Scheduling; Can They Get There At The Time?
 - How Many People Are You Needing?

Problems.
 - Weather Could Be A Problem, Some Locations Could Look Bad If Raining & If Its Cloudy, Then Your Lighting Could Be Ruined. Also, If Its Raining Your Equipment MAY Get Ruined! Bring Umbrella's To Cover You & Staff & Equipment.
 - Personnel Could Be Ill or Late, You May Need To Have Back Up Staff That Are On Call In Case You Need Them. Make Sure Costumes Fit The People You Are Shooting Or Everything Could Go Wrong! Finally, Make Sure Your Staff Have Access To Toilets Halfway Through The Shoot And/or Coffee Shops Where They Can Eat & Drink. Or If Needed, Bring A Packed Lunch.
 - Make Sure You Have Permission For Your Location If At A House. If You Are In Public, Permission May Not Be Needed However You Made Need To Ask.

At This Point In Time I Have No Idea Where & What I Will Be Photographing.

My Created Target Audience.

To Work Out My Target Audience, I Imagined Two Characters.. One Male & One Female.

To Evaluate Decision Making So Far In This Project

Primary Research - New investigations into something (questionnaires etc)

Secondary Research - Investigations made by others that you refer to (using information from magazines Media Packs found on the Internet)

In order to research my chosen genre I have tried to research magazines but have had no such luck finding any real magazines except for Q which occasionally has Pop artists.

In order to research existing magazines, I have searched for Magazines Media Pack's, they are really helpful as they do show how many people read and advertisments prices. I have also looked at a couple of magazines (even though they aren't exactly the same genre, they are still helpful) pages and covers, I looked at the styles and maybe in the future try to 'borrow' the styles and adapt them to suit my genre.

In order to investigate my target audience's needs and desires, I have created a questionnaire for people to fill out in their own time, I asked useful questions in order to get the results I need to suit my magazine to suit peoples 'needs'.

In order to conduct better primary research, I need to maybe finish ,my questionnaire and add more questions that help me get my design and input to my magazine.

To be able to make more secure decisions about my magazine, I need to maybe try to do more research and look up different artists in my genre, also I might also need to ask people outside of my class to do my questionnaire to get a different view on my magazine.

In order to do these things, I need to maybe ask around for people I know other than school to fill out my questionnaire to get more results to base my magazine around.

To catch up with everyone else (due to missing posts and work) I shall look at other peoples blogs to get ideas on how to complete my work.

Questionnaires

Today we have covered questionnaires. Questionnaires help with finding out ways to improve your magazine as they are all about the target market audience telling you how to change it to suit the reader.

You should care about the audience because that way you can get more and more readers hooked to your magazine therefore you make more money and get better advertisement deals.

To make an effective questionnaire you really need to cover everything about your future product, you can't have questions that have no relations to your product as it really is useless information. Questionnaires will make a big difference because change is good to a reader, they want to read something they enjoy, if they don't they may stop buying your magazine which will lose you money.

Pros
- Control the outcome of your questionnaire by putting 'control' questions, it can only be controlled to a certain extent.
- Easy way of getting basic information which can be gathered to help you start to build up your magazine based on your target audiences needs.
- Not very time consuming for the participant, they are quick and easy to fill out and don't take that long.
- Use of online questionnaires are really convenient as they are paperless and not much hassle is required.
- You can be assertive in questionnaires by giving instructions for people to follow.

Cons
- When using online questionnaires most can give you restrictions to only a certain amount of questions which does not help as less questions gives you less information to work out.
- People might give inaccurate answers which could lead to your magazine messing up as your information could be VERY wrong.
- Questionnaires might not give you a response, some people might say they would take the time to fill out their questionnaires but they could actually never get round to it, which would jeopardise your information due to inactivity or no results to work on.
- Questions can mean something to one person then another thing to a different person, therefore your questions could be quite vague and your research could be quite unreliable.
- Questionnaires could be inaccurate as you could have someone filling out your form that DO NOT know what you're talking about, they could not know any of the bands you have given, the participant should have background knowledge but that is not 100% possible.
