Genre Research - Homework

For my project I have chosen the Pop/Indie Pop genre, I have decided to choose 5 music videos and explain why I like them, the videos and their artists are -

 - Oh No! - Marina & The Diamonds

 - Burn - Ellie Goulding

 - Heart Attack - Demi Lovato

 - Thriller - Michael Jackson

 - Applause - Lady Gaga.

Oh No! - Marina & The Diamonds

I like this video because it really is what the pop genre is about, its colourful and interesting. The song is actually one of my favourite songs of all time, therefore this HAD to be my number one choice. Marina isn't a very well known artist and her videos aren't made with lots of money behind them, therefore the video may not be the best but it is pretty well made for the budget. The video really suits the music as the scene changes to the lyrics.

Burn - Ellie Goulding

I chose this video as it is very interesting and different, it is also very different to Oh No! as it is much simpler in the idea. Its very calm and quiet in the verses then when it gets the chorus the song changes and gets very up beat, which is Ellie Goulding's style. I like this video because 1 - I do like the song and 2 - because it is very Pop and good to listen to.

Heart Attack - Demi Lovato

My third choice goes to Heart Attack as it is a really good song, the video however is rather interesting as the theme is quite dark which is unlike Pop usually, Demi Lovato is a very complicated singer as her past is quite dark, this video symbolises her recovery and that is why I like it so much. The video itself is a lot different to Burn & Oh No! because it is so much darker.

Thriller - Michael Jackson

This video IS A CLASSIC, I think everyone knows this song! And the video, that's another story! This song is really old and was thought up by the late Michael Jackson, the idea of the video suits the song so well, this video is a bit longer than normal music videos as it is almost a short film? This song is just a classic and if you haven't heard it then you need to! Michael Jackson really was the origin of Modern Pop music, he started it off and is probably the reason Pop is quite popular nowadays.

Applause - Lady Gaga

My final video HAD to be a Gaga song, as she really is now the Queen of Pop, her videos are over excessive and actually a pleasure to watch! They are far too creative and sometimes just a but weird. This video is actually amazing and really funny to watch. Some of the scenes are really over dramatic but all in all this video is amazing.
